UK ‘Land Bridge’ supply chains, whereby products are landed in a country in mainland Europe and transit the UK to serve markets in the Republic of Ireland
Unless special arrangements can be negotiated for transiting the UK ‘land bridge’ in serving the market in the Republic of Ireland; ACP horticultural exporters will need to undertake all the preparations which exporters in the ACP/EU/UK triangular supply chains are required to trade along ACP/UK/EU supply chains. The inclusion of ACP horticultural products in special arrangements currently under discussion between the Irish government and the UK government on the use of the UK ‘land bridge’ to facilitate trade between the Republic of Ireland and mainland Europe would greatly facilitate ACP horticultural exports along supply chain Scenario 5. These discussions remain on-going, and it would appear important for the affected ACP horticultural exporters to seek the assistance of their governments in ensuring that the needs of ACP horticultural exporters operating along supply chain 5 are fully accommodated within these special arrangements.
