Not all the news is bad for fruit and vegetable markets. The 2019/20 season has become the record season for shipments of fresh mangoes. In Peru, the 2019/20 season ended with results beyond expectations, with exported volumes representing an increase of 37% compared to the previous season.
According to APEM (Asociación Peruana de Productores y Exportadores de Mango) the 2019/20 fresh mango campaign ended with exports of 233,000 tonnes, an increase of 37% compared to the 170,000 tonnes shipped in the 2018/19 campaign. This performance of the 2019/20 season is the record for fresh mango exports, far surpassing the 204,000 tonnes shipped in the 2017/18 season.
For the 2019/20 crop year, the main destinations were Europe with 132,180 tonnes (56.7% of the total), the United States with 74,900 (32.1%), Canada with 8,360 tonnes, followed by other countries totalling 17,300 tonnes. (Source: agraria.pe)
